Double Horse 9053 “Volitation” Large Helicopter

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Double Horse 9053 Volitation HelicopterGadgetI have an almost obsessive attraction to anything remote control, and even more so for things that fly. I have a large collection of RC helicopters, I’ve tried them all from those cheap little polystyrene things to the massive nitro-fuel driven jobs.

One of the main thing you should know about buying a remote control helicopter, if you’ve never had one, is they’re a lot easier to fly as they get bigger. The larger your helicopter is, the more stability it has in the air. So, if you buy one of those tiny copters you get in those kite/slateboard zero-gravity type places you’ll probably spend a lot of time crashing it into furniture or straight into the ground. They’re like trying to fly, well, a fly. Even pros find it difficult to fly these things, and believe me it is only the pros that do fly them in the demo videos. So don’t waste your money on these tiny helicopters, they might only cost like 20 quid but you may as well throw the money down the drain for all the fun you get out of them.

On the other hand, most people can’t afford to shell out 600-1000+ quid, for what might be a fleeting hobby, on a larger scale model rc helicopter, especially when this might happen: http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-helicopter-crashes.html

So, what we have with the Double Horse 9053 “Volitation” Large Helicopter is a pretty cheap, around 60 quid, rechargable battery helicopter that’s larger than most and has a gyro inside to make it easier to fly. It also has counter-rotating rotar blades, which are ideal for beginners as they make it very easy to maneouver.

The flight time is about ten minutes, which is actually fairly standard no matter what type of RC helicopter you own, but you can up that by buying extra rechargable batteries and swap them over – the same way nitro flyers have to be landed and refueled – so you can enjoy a good amount of time in the air. It has an RC range of 60 metres (197 feet), which is pretty massive. The controller has a battery voltage meter built in, which is very important because you need to check this before you fly otherwise you may lose control if your batteries go flat while flying. The main plus of this helicopter though is its large size and robust metal fuselage, making it the ideal outdoor big boy’s toy.

If you’re thinking of starting an RC helicopter hobby, get one of these big beauties! Everything you need to get flying, apart from 8 x AA batteries for the remote, is in the box.

Annoy-a-Tron 2.0

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Annoy-a-Tron 2GadgetThe Annoy-a-Tron 2.0 is a cool little, and I mean tiny, gadget whose sole purpose, as you may guess from the title, is to annoy the hell out of people.

You simply set the device to emit one of six outrageously irritating noises at your chosen volume, then hide it somewhere and watch your school/office mates get more and more annoyed before they head off and search for the offending Cricket chirping, Doorbell, Grating Electronic noise, Electronic Beep, 15kHz Teen Buzz (only younger people can hear it, old biddies lose the ability to hear high frequency sounds), 12 kHz Electronic Noise or a combination of all six.

This inexpensive device is magnetic, making it ideal for attaching to desk legs, filing cabinets, behind radiators and fridges etc.

Personally I’ve been laughing all afternoon since I managed to get it into the air conditioning with the high volume Cricket chirping.

Flower GreanadesGadget

As a bit of a hippy I’ve had many a late night conversation about tree-planting bombs… well now anyone can take up guerrilla gardening with these flower hand grenades.

The grenades contain a compact mixture of wild flowers, such as poppies, ryegrass and buttercups, and are perfect for lobbing at those neglected areas of your garden, barren wastelands and undeveloped building sites.

They come in packs of 3, so be subversive and brighten the world with a belt loaded with flower grenades dudes!

Reevu Rear View Helmet

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Rear View Helmet Gadget Every biker knows it’s quite difficult to see what’s directly behind you. You have to crane your neck around and twist your body, and you have to be quick about it because you’re not looking forward when you look over your shoulder.. The Reevu helmet has a unique internal mirror system that allows you to see behind you and in front at the same time. You see behind via a thin mirror strip in the upper area of your view, a bit like the rear-view mirror on computer driving games.

Reevu  have been experimenting with this technology for a while now, but their newest version is the best yet because it utilizes a material that is a reflective polycarbonate that gives a clear image, makes the helmet very light and also gives it much more durability than most other helmets.

The rear-view technology takes a bit of getting used to, and you might even find yourself looking over your shoulder through force of habit. It is suggested that you give it a trial run on less busy streets to orient yourself, but you will find you soon learn to differentiate between the main view in front and the smaller view facing back.

Glow In The Dark Helicopter

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Glow In The Dark Helicopter GadgetThis dual opposing direction rotor-blade helicopter is very easy to fly, even if you’ve never tried flying an RC helicopter before you’ll be buzzing around the house or office within ten minutes.

Of course, as you may have guessed from the title, the coolest thing about this gadget is it glows in the dark – so you can go all operation firefly and do stealth missions with the lights off.

The helicopter itself comes supplied with a lithium ion battery that you charge from the remote control. Once charged your glow in the dark helicopter will fly in all 3 planes, up, down, left and right, forwards and backwards and even spin on the spot.

As they’re pretty cheap, we bought two of them and can confirm they stand up to head on collisions with each other and surrounding furniture… I mean landmarks. Our favourite missions so far are formation flying up the stairs in the dark and hovering down stairwells.

Features:

  • Glow in the dark remote Control Helicopter
  • Three channel control gives precision directional control
  • Requires 6 x AA Batteries for the controller (not included)

Digital Portable Travel Luggage Scale 2010 Model

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

GadgetDigital Portable Travel Luggage ScaleIf you’re one of those people who likes to take a lot of luggage and you’re often overweight at airport baggage handling, this is the gadget for you! Many people try to weight their luggage with the bathroom scales, but those things are notoriously inaccurate and very unlikely to concur with your airport’s weighing machine. These purpose-built luggage scales are guaranteed to be spot on.

If you’re travelling on a budget airline, weighing your luggage is particularly important as, even if you’re just a little overweight, they’ll sting you with a large fee – certainly a lot bigger than the small price of these digital luggage scales.

The BPS Digital Portable Travel Luggage Scale is very lightweight, only 175 grams, and portable – so it’s ideal for taking on holiday with you to check your luggage weight after you buy all your souvenirs and gifts.

Additional features include reset function, Auto power off, Data lock function, Overload indication, Low battery indicator, Blue Backlight, High precision strain gauge sensor, Batteries INCLUDED – 2 AAA batteries, Very Accurate or your MONEY BACK! 12 month guarantee.
