Logitech K750 Wireless Solar Keyboard

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

The Logitech K750 wireless solar keyboard is an easy to use keyboard that is wider than most conventional laptop keyboards, which can make typing simpler for those with larger fingers.

Like many calculators, it is solar powered, which means that you will never have to buy batteries.

The Logitech K750 uses a conventional Windows keyboard, with keys labelled for Windows operations. It will work with OS X, but you will have to know which keys to use.

The keyboard is completely flat, so it is not the best keyboard for someone suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, who would be better off with an ergonomic keyboard.  The Logitech 750 wireless solar keyboard does have two small kickstands so you can angle the keyboard slightly upwards, which some might find more comfortable.

A Logitech Unifying Receiver can be used to connect the Logitech K750 wireless solar keyboard. The Unifying receiver enables you to connect multiple USB devices (such as mouse and keyboard) through one small, wireless receiver, so if you have lots of USB devices, you don’t have to worry about having plugs everywhere.

AirCurve Play Self-Powered iPhone Dock

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

The AirCurve Play is a self-powered iPhone speaker dock, in fact it doesn’t use any power at all!

This un-powered speaker works by utilizing airflow through special tubes and acoustic shapes, much the same way as our own ears amplify sound, to give you 10 decibels of beautiful sound absolutely anywhere, day or night with no need for a power-source.

Ideal for listening to your favourite tunes, a bedside alarm clock or sharing calls with a room full of colleagues or friends.

Android iHome Phone by Binatone

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Yes, an Android landline phone!

The iDECT iHome has been in the headlines recently as the first home phone to full embrace mobile smartphone tech.

The cordless iHome Phone and Answering machine comes with the world’s most popular open-source operating system, Android.

The handset has built in wifi so you can use the 2.8in screen to browse the web, read and send your emails and download more apps from the Android Market.

All I can say is, all my other devices are web-enabled, so why should this one escape!

Personally I’m finding this a useful little tool for the office, where we need landlines anyway so they may as well do something a little extra other than making phone calls. http://tinyurl.com/idect-ihome

ECTACO iTRAVL NTL-9ME Talking 2-way Multilingual Language Communicator

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

itravelGadgetIf you’re a bit of a nerd like me you’re probably a fan of Star Trek and know all about their universal translators, which is why all the alien races can speak to each other.

Well, that’s sort of why I’m very excited about the latest ECTACO iTRAVL device for communicating with people around the world who speak different languages. For me it’s the beginning of science fiction becoming science fact, and I love it!

This translator device is said to contain some of the world’s best voice recognition software, containing thousands of words from many different languages so you can speak in the console and have it translate with a spoken word or phrase from English to Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Persian (Farsi), Hebrew, Turkish and back again!

For me this is a device I’ve always wanted, you literally speak into it and it speaks back to you in whatever language you choose. It’s a great way of learning a language and it is also an invaluable tool when trying to get by in a foreign country.

As well as translating your words and phrases the device has an iHelp system with a wealth of commonly used phrases for each of the countries in its database, so you can be gracious and polite in all the different countries you visit – utilizing customary language and phrases.

There are games installed so you can learn phrases from each language, using for brushing up and passing the time on boring flights.

All the voices used are recordings of real people from each country, each with their particular accents and various nuences, speaking from a dictionary of over 70,000 words.

The iTravl 9ME also contain a fact book on all the countries in the world, with hints and tips on what to look out for and what dangers to be aware of.

As well as trips abroad the  ECTACO  iTRAVL NTL-9ME is ideal for impressing/helping foreign visitors, such as business people, travellers and exchange students.

Car Mouse

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Car MouseGadgetSo I got to the office today and there are all these little boxes from Amazon. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what I could have ordered that would appear in dozens of little, identically sized boxes. Until I opened one and said, ‘aah, the Car Mouses…’ and yes, the plural for a computer mouse is mouses.

Anyway, what can I say? I could drivel on about mouse sensitivity, pointer accuracy and resolutions ad nauseum, but what’s the point – it’s a computer mouse that looks like a car, with glowing headlights, different models and colours.

I’ve replaced everyone’s old, boring mouse in the office (Kevin had a roller-ball mouse from the dark ages!) and they all think they’re mint.

I know it’s only a little novelty, but they look cool and everyone’s desk has a toy car on it now which has brightened the place up nicely. Furthermore they’re dirt cheap, only 4.99 for the cheapest one which to me seems just as good as the rest – I think you just pay a bit more for fancy cars like TVRs etc.

A perfect and cost-effective way of chasing away some of those autumnal and winter blues.

Annoy-a-Tron 2.0

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Annoy-a-Tron 2GadgetThe Annoy-a-Tron 2.0 is a cool little, and I mean tiny, gadget whose sole purpose, as you may guess from the title, is to annoy the hell out of people.

You simply set the device to emit one of six outrageously irritating noises at your chosen volume, then hide it somewhere and watch your school/office mates get more and more annoyed before they head off and search for the offending Cricket chirping, Doorbell, Grating Electronic noise, Electronic Beep, 15kHz Teen Buzz (only younger people can hear it, old biddies lose the ability to hear high frequency sounds), 12 kHz Electronic Noise or a combination of all six.

This inexpensive device is magnetic, making it ideal for attaching to desk legs, filing cabinets, behind radiators and fridges etc.

Personally I’ve been laughing all afternoon since I managed to get it into the air conditioning with the high volume Cricket chirping.

USB RETRO DESKTOP VACUUM CLEANER

Gadget

I’m not one to eat at my desk, but my colleague sitting behind me is and she’s always getting crumbs everywhere, all over her keyboard and desk.

If this sounds like you this super USB Vacuum Cleaner is just what you need.

Or, if you’re like me, you could buy it as a gift for someone at work to give them a little joking hint.

This groovy little 1970s style vacuum cleaner plugs into your computer’s USB port, requires no batteries and works just like a real hoover, only it’s a lot smaller, 20cm x 10cm x 6cm (7.8 x 3.9 x 2.3 inches).

The Retro Usb Hoover Vacuum Cleaner is ideal for cleaning up crumbs and dust around your desk in a novel fashion, it even allows you to put the handle down flat to get to hard to reach place just like the real thing.

Bladeless Fan

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

bladeless fan reviewGadgetSo, I was in Comet yesterday and saw this crazy-looking device like something from Dune or Star Wars, blowing air at me with no visible means of doing so. Obviously I went and bought it right away.

The fan is made by Dyson, of bag-less vacuum cleaner fame, and sucks air into the base unit then squeezes it out through a thin aperture around the 12 inch rim. This high-pressure airflow drags more air with it, increasing the air volume by six times.

I could go on, bla bla bla, about all sorts of other specs like the fact the air is a continuous flow, and not a kind of whoosh whoosh wave like you get from a normal fan, but the main attraction for me is the magical feeling it projects. As soon as people see there’s no bladed they start sticking their hand through the loop, then feeling all around to see where the air is coming from.

Still, you have to be a bit of a gadget connoisseur to go for this, it’s pretty expensive for a fan.
