Harry Potter Lego Game

November 25th, 2010

GadgetIf you have children into Harry Potter this is the perfect Christmas gift.

Not only do they get to play a game with their favourite characters involved and spells, monsters and secret passageways, they also get to learn the tactile skills of building their own designs.

You can reconfigure the corridors and monster hideouts each time you play the game, searching for the components that make up Harry Potters Hogwarts homework.

Batmobile Replica

November 24th, 2010

BatmobileGadget
Just what I’ve always wanted, a replica of the original Batmobile. Please can someone buy me one of these, and if not why not!

Okay, so you have to be pretty well off to own one of these at 120 grand, but there must be someone out there who’s ready to own a faithful, officially licensed replica of this rocket-powered icon.

Personally I can’t imagine a car that would be any cooler than this, pulling up to work in the Batmobile every day would simply be awsome!

Car Mouse

November 1st, 2010

Car MouseGadgetSo I got to the office today and there are all these little boxes from Amazon. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what I could have ordered that would appear in dozens of little, identically sized boxes. Until I opened one and said, ‘aah, the Car Mouses…’ and yes, the plural for a computer mouse is mouses.

Anyway, what can I say? I could drivel on about mouse sensitivity, pointer accuracy and resolutions ad nauseum, but what’s the point – it’s a computer mouse that looks like a car, with glowing headlights, different models and colours.

I’ve replaced everyone’s old, boring mouse in the office (Kevin had a roller-ball mouse from the dark ages!) and they all think they’re mint.

I know it’s only a little novelty, but they look cool and everyone’s desk has a toy car on it now which has brightened the place up nicely. Furthermore they’re dirt cheap, only 4.99 for the cheapest one which to me seems just as good as the rest – I think you just pay a bit more for fancy cars like TVRs etc.

A perfect and cost-effective way of chasing away some of those autumnal and winter blues.

iPod Nano 8GB 6th Generation

September 28th, 2010

iPod Nano 2010GadgetThis awesome, yet tiny, device should be for sale by the end of the week – i.e. from October 2010.

It comes with all new touchscreen tecyhnology that gives an ultra-slick feel to the user interface and is the first proper redesign of the nano since the appaearance of generation 1 way back in 2005. Apple has achieved this new breakthrough via a brand new operating system, whose interface looks and reacts more like iOS than iPod.

It is smaller and lighter than ever before, in fact if they’re not careful future generations will disappear altogether.

Despite its miniscule appearance, this latest iPod Nano has better sound quality than before, with a richer bass sound and a less scratchy effect on those high-pitched sounds.

Oh yes, did I mention that it’s small. I mean tiny dude! It’s like a musical postage stamp or something, making your in-ear headphones look old-style enormous!

The 6th generation is a break from all previous designs and, as such, will not be to everyone’s taste. For me, I like it. It’s new and it’s out there – everything I love in a gadget.

Double Horse 9053 “Volitation” Large Helicopter

August 27th, 2010

Double Horse 9053 Volitation HelicopterGadgetI have an almost obsessive attraction to anything remote control, and even more so for things that fly. I have a large collection of RC helicopters, I’ve tried them all from those cheap little polystyrene things to the massive nitro-fuel driven jobs.

One of the main thing you should know about buying a remote control helicopter, if you’ve never had one, is they’re a lot easier to fly as they get bigger. The larger your helicopter is, the more stability it has in the air. So, if you buy one of those tiny copters you get in those kite/slateboard zero-gravity type places you’ll probably spend a lot of time crashing it into furniture or straight into the ground. They’re like trying to fly, well, a fly. Even pros find it difficult to fly these things, and believe me it is only the pros that do fly them in the demo videos. So don’t waste your money on these tiny helicopters, they might only cost like 20 quid but you may as well throw the money down the drain for all the fun you get out of them.

On the other hand, most people can’t afford to shell out 600-1000+ quid, for what might be a fleeting hobby, on a larger scale model rc helicopter, especially when this might happen: http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-helicopter-crashes.html

So, what we have with the Double Horse 9053 “Volitation” Large Helicopter is a pretty cheap, around 60 quid, rechargable battery helicopter that’s larger than most and has a gyro inside to make it easier to fly. It also has counter-rotating rotar blades, which are ideal for beginners as they make it very easy to maneouver.

The flight time is about ten minutes, which is actually fairly standard no matter what type of RC helicopter you own, but you can up that by buying extra rechargable batteries and swap them over – the same way nitro flyers have to be landed and refueled – so you can enjoy a good amount of time in the air. It has an RC range of 60 metres (197 feet), which is pretty massive. The controller has a battery voltage meter built in, which is very important because you need to check this before you fly otherwise you may lose control if your batteries go flat while flying. The main plus of this helicopter though is its large size and robust metal fuselage, making it the ideal outdoor big boy’s toy.

If you’re thinking of starting an RC helicopter hobby, get one of these big beauties! Everything you need to get flying, apart from 8 x AA batteries for the remote, is in the box.

JPL Ultra 2000 Compact Ultrasonic Cleaner

August 19th, 2010

ultrasonic-cleanerGadgetThe JPL Ultra 2000 Compact Ultrasonic Cleaner is a special non-abrasive cleaner for jewellery, gold chains, spectacles and sunglasses etc.

It’s very easy to use, simply pop in your necklace or gold chain etc, close the lid, switch it on and off it goes.

It will clean most items perfectly with plain water, but you can also buy the special JPL Ultrasonic Cleaning Solution for antiques and really old items that have a lot of dirt on them.

This gadget is perfect for cleaning small fashion accessories like earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets and so on, as well as properly de-smudging your glasses and sunglasses.

The JPL Ultra 2000 uses ultra-high-frequency (UHF) sound waves to get all the dirt from the tiny pits and groves in all kinds of metals, plastics and glass to leave your items gleaming like new.

It’s also a very useful gadget if you’re considering selling some of your jewellery or old gold, [or even considering shining up some cheap charity shop bargains then flogging them on eBay, ed].
